Planning Law

The Town and Country Planning Act 1990 is the principal statute governing the use of land in England and Wales, administered primarily by local authorities.

Planning permission may be required for development which includes building works and material changes of use.

Whilst undertaking development without the benefit of planning permission is not generally a criminal offence non compliance with a planning enforcement notice is.

At Chiltern Law, our team of planning solicitors are able to offer specialist advice to all those caught in the planning enforcement regime, including:

  • How to respond to an enforcement notice;
  • How and on what grounds to appeal against an enforcement notice;
  • Advice in respect of works to listed buildings and in conservation areas;
  • Advice and representation through the criminal courts defending a charge of non compliance with an enforcement notice.
